If the conditions are favorable, get a chance to venture into the La Jolla sea caves at night. After you paddle through the kelp beds, you may find yourself dodging flying fish and trying to keep pace with dolphins in the hunt.
Every day is different on the open ocean: tides, swell, and weather vary hourly, wildlife encounters are always an exciting possibility - never knowing exactly what will happen is part of the adventure! The "Coastal" paddles are 9-14 mile excursions and require some previous experience: a Basic kayaking lesson and a few Thursday Evening or Wednesday Morning paddles, for example. We have tandem kayaks available for those unsure of their stamina, but you'll have to supply your kayaking partner! These paddles are great preparation for longer kayak trips like our Black Canyon Hot Springs trip or Todos Santos Islands expedition. Come see San Diego from a new perspective!
We meet at Aqua Adventures Kayak Center and set up a car shuttle so that we can make a one-way trip. This takes a little time, but is worth it! We'll get an early start and enjoy our paddle along San Diego's beautiful coast. You only need to bring snacks and drinking water and to wear synthetic clothing like nylon, polypropylene, or fleece. Cotton is not permitted! Please also bring a windbreaker. In cooler weather, wetsuits may be appropriate and are available to rent from Aqua Adventures Kayak Center for $5. Our exact itinerary must remain flexible due to variable weather and ocean conditions.
